Description
MePA thanks Rachel L. Orr, PsyD, ABPP-CN, for making this presentation available. Dr. Orr is a Licensed Psychologist and Board Certified Clinical Neuropsychologist.
The process of conducting a neuropsychological or psychological evaluation involves many steps in preparation, facilitation, and follow-up. At each point through the journey of an evaluation, psychologists must navigate decisions that require them to consider ethical standards and best practices. In a world where demand is high for evaluations, time, efficiency, and utility, it is more important than ever for psychologists to know how to balance these demands with ethical obligations. Psychologists must adhere to ethical and legal standards, aspire to ethical principles that support the best care for patients, and know how to problem-solve the various ethical considerations—and inevitable dilemmas—that may be faced.
This webinar will highlight important ethical considerations for psychologists at the various stages of a neuropsychological or psychological evaluation process, including in preparation for seeing patients (before), through the course of evaluation procedures (during), and in the face of follow-up requests or activities (after).
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify core elements to consider and address within informed consent for evaluation services.
2. Explain steps that can be used to determine whether evaluation procedures have been sufficient to inform the bases for conclusions.
3. Identify common ethical dilemmas or pitfalls that psychologists experience in providing evaluations and how to address them.
